New Season, New Car

Thanks to my wonderful grandparents in Reno/Lake Tahoe, my first car is now sitting outside my window. It arrived last Friday and I promptly got the title transfer and registration done. I also got studded tires and insurance, and she is now ready to roll in the wild Montana territory. And winter. Because not only do I now have to learn how to drive manual, but also how to drive in winter. A whole new set of skills... But I am up to this exciting new task! Thanks Yayos!

Introducing Nanook

This is Nanook, the latest addition to our family. Previously known as Brutis (poor little guy), we obviously decided to change his name to Nanook, which means polar bear in Eskimo. He is a 6-month old little cutie who has much to learn from Pinky. Pinky was not too thrilled at first and kept 24-hour watch the entire first two days, hissing at Nanook when he got too close or moved too unexpectedly.

The second morning together, they started chasing each other around the apartment. I think poor Pinky is a bit out of shape and this little guy is certainly challenging her feline prowess. I was getting worried about Pinky putting on too much weight, but seeing how she has been running around like never before, and has barely had a taste of food since Nanook arrived, I'm sure she will get back into shape. I was and am a little worried about her not eating, but I'm guessing all this excitement has her on a hyper-vigilant state which will be assuaged as she gets more used to Nanook. She seems to like the fun and games, but she needs to adjust to the idea that he is here to stay. As for Nanook, he knows how to handle her and doesn't bat an eyelash when she hisses or swipes at him. He has been very good so far- immediately learned where the kitty litter was, has not scratched the couch, etc. He does need training in human matters though, such as not jumping into plates of food. All in all, an exciting time for all, especially with a long dark winter just around the corner.

And this is our Halloween photo session. A black cat sure seems fitting on Halloween.

It is Here

There is something wrong with this picture. Our summer chairs covered in a cold white substance. I awoke this morning at dawn to a familiar scraping sound I tried to ignore and rationalize not to be what I indeed knew it was- somebody scraping snow off their car. I looked out the window to the first snow down in the valley. Everything outside was covered in white and this morning as I went to do laundry down to our apartment complex's laundry room, my freshly showered hair froze. I checked the weather and gasped: 22 F (-5.5 C); windchill 8 F (-13.3 C). We have literally gone from summer weather to pure winter torture, no in between. Yikes. We had high hopes for a mild winter, but apparently an early winter is never a good sign here.

*Sigh*
